The hybrid nature of mass media discourse on migration issues and problems of its translation

Abstract. The article deals with the discourse as an element of the communicative process, identifies and examines its various genres. It carries out the analysis of mass media discourse and describes its place in modern linguistics. Texts of mass media discourse are a source of the most relevant, important information as well as a way of influence and control of public’s mind. The main part of the paper covers the study of mass media discourse on migration issues as the main problem of the modern society and an important factor in global politics. The study focuses on the mass media texts, speeches of politicians, scientific articles of experts on migration, published in the mass media. The paper demonstrates the basic features of each element of the mass media discourse, presents and compares their basic linguistic features. The article describes the translation difficulties of the mass media texts and defines a strategy of its translation from English into Russian. The study presents translation and transformation techniques based on the found translation examples of the texts of mass media discourse. It brings us to the conclusion that the mass media discourse plays an important role in the study of the phenomenon of migration, awareness and holistic perception of this problem.
