Abstract. This article deals with the problems of understanding the concept of freedom
in philosophy and law. A historical analysis, understanding of the concept of freedom in different
historical periods, as well as a comparative analysis of the understanding of freedom in law
and philosophy. Based on the study, the authors concluded that the understanding of freedom
is very diverse and multifaceted, largely it depends on the science that considers the freedom
and the historical period of society.
