JOHN ALEXANDER MACDONALD’S ROLE IN FORMING OF THE CANADIAN STATEHOOD

Abstract. The emergence of the Dominion of Canada is closely connected with John Alexander Macdonald (1815–1891) – the first Prime Minister of Canada and the leader of the Liberal-Conservative Party. The way to the Dominion’s organization was long and thorny but the process of its development became more difficult. J.A. MacDonald devoted all his life to the police; he is a peculiar symbol of the history of the Canadian state. In the article the main moments of J.A. MacDonald’s political activity during the periods of his power are shown and the role of the politician in the Canadian state formation is presented.
