Abstract. The article gives a detailed analysis of the establishment and development of parish schools in Ust-Medveditsa District of the Don Cossacks. In the specific examples, consider the relationship between the schools and the local population, the peculiarities of the functioning of a parish schools and its role in spreading of education in the Don. The author concludes that, despite the financial difficulties, parish schools were supported by the local population and the parish clergy.
