Abstract. An attempt has been made to analyze the availability and quality of specially protected natural territories in the Southern and North Caucasian Federal districts. The author defines the role and extent of use of these areas for ecotourism development. The paper discusses possible management tools and favorable impact on the functioning of the facilities on specially protected natural territories to improve the quality and level of development of territories in ecotourism.
