Abstract. The paper is devoted to the specificity of transferring the lexical and stylistic
devices in the literary translation. The study is based on the W. Shakespeare play “Richard
II”. The author analyses the specificity of using transformations in translation as means of
transmitting lexical and stylistic peculiarities of the original text. The practical part of the study
includes a number of examples of using the transformations for transferring the peculiarities
of the W. Shakespeare’s language.
